Hardwood Hustle

June 7-9, 2019 Appleton, Wisconsin

Messages

To all our 2019 Hardwood Hustle Directors, Coaches, Teams, Parents, Athletes, College Coaches, Sponsors, Volunteers, and Vendors!

Thank you tremendously for taking the time to register, travel, participate, and compete at a high level this weekend. We are so thankful that you brought your A game to make this past weekend a success!

We had at least 900 athletes who attended from across two states and competed in 14 different divisions.

Thank you for helping us create the most competitive divisions possible with your feedback during scheduling.

CHAMPIONS AND ALL STAR TOURNAMENT TEAM
We will be posting all program Champions and Second Place Winners along with announcing the All Star Tournament Team athletes by the end of next week.

We had a couple divisions who earned second place medals, but left before we could give you your awards. We will reach out to you and mail those out!

BUMPS
99.5% of the tournament went smooth throughout the weekend with games on time or running ahead. Unfortunately, we did have a few parents and coaches, whose behavior did cross lines. We had meetings with these parents, coaches, and referees, and handled the issue swiftly on Sunday and this week as quickly and respectfully as possible.

WE PUT KIDS FIRST! And do not tolerate unacceptable words and behavior. We want the safest and most positive environment for all attendees.

As stated in our expectations as shared in our rules...

"We expect positive coaching and an encouraging environment. There will be Zero Tolerance for foul language or behavior. We will be swift in handing out technicals and/or removing any coach or spectator from the gym upon any lewd, inappropriate, or demeaning behavior to athletes, coaches and officials. Technicals will be given to teams if any spectators/fans become an issue.

The tournament director at the site will settle any disputes. No protests are allowed. We expect all participants to conduct themselves with class, and exemplify the true spirit of our sport through the highest sportsmanship possible."

We will continue to manage our tournaments by this policy for the good of athletes and our sport.

COLLEGE COACHES
Thank you to our College Coaches for attending and evaluating our athletes carefully: Alverno College, Lawrence University, John Wood Community College, and Mount Mary University. It was great to see connections being made right away this weekend. We have already made strides to bring you more exposure with additional commitments from D2 and D3 coaches next year! This element will be even bigger and better!

BLAZE GOLF WINNERS
Over 100 participants signed up to win a chance at a free foursome to our inaugural Birdie 4 Blaze Golf Outing. Our three golf winners were quite excited! They are:

Jim Kleuskens
Nicki Bratz
Tracey (Callie) Schmidt

If you are interested in attending, having a crazy fun day, helping athletes, and winning some amazing prizes on Saturday, June 22nd, please visithttps://blaze365.com/events/golf/

HELLO COACHES AND TEAMS!

We are EXTREMELY excited to host you and your teams for the 2019 Hardwood Hustle tournament! We have some important updates to share with you and your team. Please read, share with your team, and adhere to the deadlines. Use your team moms please where needed so we can make this greatness happen :)

GAME SCHEDULE

The schedule is finalized! DOWNLOAD THE EXPOSURE BASKETBALL APP.

We will not be printing paper brackets.

Please give your schedule a once over one more time to make sure that you have received your minimum 4 games, and double check for any location and game time updates!

We have worked hard to be efficient with our schedule and honor those teams traveling long distances. All our local programs in NorthEast Wisconsin truly appreciate the effort you are making to compete in our neighborhood. When needed and able, we scheduled our local teams earlier or later each day, because I know we have cool Directors up here who would be good with that :)

FRIDAY: Some of our teams coming from afar on Friday can’t get to our gyms until a certain time with school still in session and traffic, so we pushed them as late as possible, and may have forced games to be back to back. If your athletes need a couple extra minutes to refuel, please communicate with the refs and the director, and I know they will be happy to support you to give your athletes a little extra time to fuel up again. Nothing excessive of course!

SATURDAY: Championship games will be running on both Saturday and Sunday for different divisions. We were able to schedule 5+ games for some divisions based on the number of teams in the division. If you happen to end up moving on to a final 3rd place game, and BOTH teams have their four games in, we scheduled these game slots later in the day. If you have your four games in and want to hike it home due to traveling time, YOU MUST communicate with the Director and MAKE SURE the other team has all their guaranteed four games in AND agrees to finish earlier. All games must be played unless your Director agrees otherwise. We do not want anyone waiting around for a couple hours only to find out that the other team went home. Be kind and communicate! WE ARE FAMILY!

RULES

We have tweaked the RULES to better fit the schedule, and allow the games to run more smoothly. All rules will be posted at each scorer’s table.

COLLEGE COACHES

We have invited collegiate coaches to this tournament and some of them will be sharing news about their universities and programs in the commons area at Appleton North in addition to watching the older teams compete. But we need your rosters!

ROSTERS

We will be pre-printing score sheets to keep the time between games running smoothly and the tournament running on time. It is imperative that you check your basketball exposure account and make sure that your rosters are up to date! Everyone must have a minimum full name and athlete numbers, by Thursday, June 6th, 12pm.

14u through 17u divisions: We will be printing rosters for college coaches with details of athletes for all these age groups. We are requiring full name, numbers, school, email and phone numbers of the athletes in these divisions. This is for the college coaches that are attending!!! Please update your team information in the exposure basketball software by Thursday, June 6th, 12pm.

If you need assistance to update your team rosters, please email tourneys@blaze365.com

PRE-ORDER T-SHIRTS AND SWEATSHIRTS
Tournament t-shirts and sweatshirts can be pre-ordered!!! All your team orders will be sorted and pre-packaged for your athletes to easily pick up. T-shirts and sweatshirts must be pre-ordered by Thursday, June 6th. Please use this SHIRTS & GIGGLES LINK to pre-order.

There will be special vendors offering other fun gear and accessories for you and your team.

PHOTOGRAPHER AND VIDEOGRAPHER

We will have a professional photographer and videographer onsite doing special work for added exposure.

SITE DIRECTORS / AREA MAP

We will have site supervisors at Appleton North, Einstein Middle School, and Enspire365 gymnasiums. The contact information for those leaders will be provided to you upon check-in.

CHECK-IN

Coaches must check in at their first game. Wristbands will be provided to a head and assistant coach and one scorekeeper. Please make sure to sign the paperwork and write down the hotel you are staying in upon check-in.

HOTELS

The room blocks that we provided at the hotels have filled up. Unfortunately, the hotels were not able to block more rooms for us at a discounted rate this close to the tournament. You can still try to call the hotels listed on the Blaze/Hardwood Hustle website.

TROPHIES

This year we will be honoring athletes with trophies for the first place team and medals for each member on the second place team up to 12 max per team.

CONCESSIONS
This will be a no joke awesome concession stand that will provide healthy options for you, your athletes, and families. The health of the athlete is always our top priority.

Good morning Coaches!

Thank you for the great start to the tournament yesterday! We ran ahead, no major injuries, and athletes were smiling and getting better!

A couple of notes:

We had game balls disappear at Appleton North, so we will use the athletes basketballs for game balls the rest of the weekend. For sure at North potentially the other gyms as well. Please be prepared to be asked to provide one.

Also, please ask your scorekeepers to read the instructions on the table, fill out the scoresheet in full and appropriately. They should be marking the scoresheets with 2's and 3's and dots for made and missed free throws. And then writing the score in large numbers and circling them. We don't want to get the scores of games incorrectly. Make sure they mark the names of the teams, court number, and more. Just follow instructions, and fill out the score sheets in full! :)

Our Directors want things to run as smoothly as possible, and know clearly the results of games and how athletes are doing as what adds up to the final scores matter, and also helps if someone misses all star nominations.

Thank you for nominating athletes for the all star teams! We had almost 100% sheets filled out. We can't wait until we can recognize kids for all they are doing!

Putting kids first,
Coach Lisa and Blaze Staff

Coaches- please be sure to select two All Star players from each team you play and record numbers on the back of your score sheet for each game.

6/7/2019 6:42 PM

Coaches,
please be sure to select two all star players from each team you play and record them on the back of your score sheet after each game.

Good afternoon, Coaches!

We are so excited to get things kicked off tomorrow! We hope you are too!

Just a quick note about check in. Please be sure to stop by the site of your first game before your first game to check in and receive your wrist bands for the weekend. We are providing each team with three (3) coaches wristbands to use at your discresion.

We are also asking that you bring with you to check in, the attached hotel log. To the best of your ability, if you could try to document which hotels your team is staying at, we would be most appreciative. This helps us know which hotels to thank after the tournament. We know not everyone is staying in hotels, so just bring the log back and we will collect that information from you too.

Again, we couldn't be more excited to host this weekend. Thank you for choosing to attend the Hardwood Hustle and best of luck to all!

All the best,
Emma
