33rd Annual Slim Sylvester Tournament

February 21-23, 2020 Endicott, New York

Messages

Coaches,

Some important final details.
Teams that owe fee: Corning Boys, Corning Girls, UE Williams
Teams that owe rosters: JC Greenburg/Hankey, Vestal Ramia, Elmira Morrell, JC Hinkey, Norwich Evans. NOTE this MUST be done online at Exposure Site

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
If you play first game of the day at a site, please do not have your team arrive more than 20-minutes in advance of the game time with expectation being that the doors open 15-minutes prior.

Admission will be $3 daily. We do not have bracelets for weekend passes, but nobody plays more than two days.

For all other games, teams must be at the gym 30-minutes before the game time as all games WILL start up to 15-minutes ahead of schedule without coaches approval, starting more than 15-minutes early requires both coaches’ agreement. If your game is scheduled for 3:00pm and we are ahead, the warmup clock ends at 3:45pm; if you are not there, you will forfeit.

When you get the gym before your first game, you need to check in and get your wristband. One head coach, one assistant and one scorekeeper get in for free and all must sign in. Each teamMUSTprovide one scorekeeper for every game, but they get in for free, but they MUST sign in. It cannot be three people switching it up every game though, one person signs in and gets the bracelet put on for the entire event. The team listed as the away team will do scoreboard and the team listed as the home team will do the scoresheet.

Teams are responsible for their own first aid. If a site has ice, we may be able to provide it but not every site will be able to do so. Each team should plan on bringing ice packs, Band-Aids and any other anticipated first aid needs.

REVIEW OF POOL FORMATS
Pool A: All teams play two games in pool play then will play one crossover or championship. These games will be played strictly as scheduled.

Pool B: All teams play 3 pool play games with best record winning.

Pool C: All teams play two games in pool play then will play one crossover or championship. These games will be played strictly as scheduled.

Pool D: Teams are in a 4-team bracket. The winners play in championship and losers play in consolation; these games are on Saturday. Then their third game is a crossover game against pool E.

Pool E: Teams are in a 4-team bracket. The winners play in championship and losers play in consolation; these games are on Saturday. Then their third game is a crossover game against pool D.

Pool F:All teams play two games in pool play then will play one crossover or championship. These games will be played strictly as scheduled. Regardless of record, Camillus plays in the 8pm Saturdaygame at JFS. Whoever is the seed supposed to play them will play them in that game. So, if Camillus is 1st or 2nd, that game is the championship, if they or 5th or 6th, that game will be a consolation. Games Sunday will be scheduled accordingly after that game to get out of teams out of town at the earliest possible time.

Pool AA/BB: Three team pools play with best record winning. 2nd and 3rd in AA will play each other in a consolation third game and the 1st place team in AA will play a consolation game against the 3rd place seed in BB in a consolation third game while 1st and 2nd in Pool BB will play in a consolation third game.

Pool CC: All teams play two games in pool play then will play one crossover or championship. When teams play will be decided after pool play is done with every effort made to get out of town teams done first.

Thanks,

Tony

Coaches, due to a team pulling out and adding a team I had to make some changes to pools D and E. While the vast majority of the games did not change there are some formatting changes as both pools will be bracket play now with one crossover game.

Coaches,

Please see the final schedule for the Slim Tournament barring any unforseen weather or gym issues. I have taken into account all requests as much as possible and changed the schedule only beccause I had to due to two teams who had paid not being registered so I had to get them in. The format of some of the pools have changed, I will email all of that out tomorrow as I am taking a break from the computer for a whilie.

Thanks,

Tony

Coaches,
I am happy to tell you that the 33rd Annual Slim Sylvester Tournament schedule is now finalized and online! There will be no schedule changes unless due to extenuating unforeseen circumstances on my end. You can find the schedule and rules on both the APP and atwww.phdbb.com
I cannot urge you strongly enough to both download the app and stress that the parents of all your players do the same. I have included links to download the app both from the app store and the android market.
Within the app you can find schedules, scores, directions to venues, rules and more. To access the rules, click “more” on the bottom right menu bar, then click documents on the menu bar that opens on the left.
When you look at the schedule, make sure you see all 3 of your games, every team plays exactly 3 games. In some cases 1 to 3 of your games are part of a bracket. You should always click your division then brackets to see possible bracket games. Just so everyone knows the format of each division here is the breakdown:
Boys 4th: POOL A
8 teams are in a bracket with all 1st round winners and all 1st round losers heading to a different bracket. Winners of each bracket will get awards.
Boys 5th: POOL B
4 teams in a pool, each teams all others once with best record winning
Boys 5th/6th: POOL C
4 teams in a pool, each teams all others once with best record winning
Boys 6th: POOLS D & E
Two separate 6-team pools. In each pool teams will play 2-pool play games then within their pool a third game will be played based on seed, the third game will either be a championship game or consolation game. PLEASE NOTE although these games are scheduled now, there will be the possibility of the times of these games changing in order to get teams traveling out of town as soon as possible.
Girls 4th/5th and 5th/6th: POOLS AA & BB
Two pools, each having their own division champ who will get shirts. The winner of the 4th/5th pool will play one crossover game against the third place seed from the 5th/6th pool, while the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the 4th/5th pool will play each other and the 1st and 2nd place teams in the 5th/6th pool will play each other , all of these crosssover/consolation games have no impacton standings.
Girls 6th: POOL CC
Teams will play 2-pool play games then within their pool a third game will be played based on seed, the third game will either be a championship game or consolation game. PLEASE NOTE although these games are scheduled now, there will be the possibility of the times of these games changing in order to get teams traveling out of town as soon as possible.

At the conclusion of each team’s final game they will have at least one player selected for the Slim Sylvester 6th Man Award and for the All-Tournament Team.
I did my best to meet all requests and give everyone the best schedules possible. PLEASE inform your parents of the following so the event runs smoothly, I would suggest copying and pasting the following in an email for them so they are informed:
  • Admission is $5 for a weekend pass sold on Saturday (no daily admission sold on Saturday) and a daily admission of $3 on Sunday. The best bet would be for people to buy the weekend pass. The pass will be a wristband that MUST be worn on their wrist. If anyone does not want to wear the wristband, they must simply pay the daily rate. My staff will put it on their wrist and it must be worn at all times. Those prices are for everyone 8 and over. Players competing in the event and in uniform are not charged to get in either day.
  • No gym opens more than 15-minutes before the first game of the day at each site, so nobody will be allowed in any gym before that time. We will be setting up and spectators are not allowed in until we are ready to receive them.
  • For all other games, teams must be at the gym 30-minutes before the game time as all games WILL stat up to 15-minutes ahead of schedule without coaches approval, starting more than 15-minutes early requires both coaches’ agreement. If your game is scheduled for 3:15pm and we are ahead, the warmup clock ends at 3:00pm; if you are not there, you will forfeit.
  • Absolutely NO outside drinks other than water will be allowed in, no coffee, hot chocolate, soda, etc. We have had too many issues with spills, most of which are not cleaned up and we cannot put our use of the gyms at jeopardy.
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR COACHES:
  • When you get the gym before your first game, you need to check in and get your wristband.
  • Please make sure you look over the rules so everyone is on the same page, and note that when divisions are mixed divisions, the rules defer to the YOUNGER division for ALL games where rules differ between the grades.
  • When the previous game ends, the warm-up clock is set for 3-minutes and started. Your team should be at the court, stretched and changed before the previous game ends. Teams should set their stuff aside and get right to warming up then get all their stuff after. Teams PLEASE do not have post game talks at the bench and do not allow your players to change at the bench. When a game ends, teams should shake hands, get all garbage and gear and make way for the next team to access the bench area.
  • Teams are responsible for their own first aid. If a site has ice we may be able to provide it but not every site will be able to do so. Each team should plan on bringing ice packs, bandaids and any other anticipated first aid needs.
I believe that is everything, it should be a good weekend of basketball. This tournament has a great tradition, I encourage you and your team to watch some other games before and after their games. There will be some great basketball going on over the weekend.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Thanks,
Tony
