Want to Learn to Be a Basketball Referee? Want to Improve as an official?

HSA Sports Basketball Referee Camp is designed to train individuals interested in becoming brand new referees and high school officials looking to improve their skills, officiating fundamentals, & game management techniques based on their individual experience & current ability level. 

 2 Person and 3 Person mechanics and fundamentals will be taught and/or enhanced. This camp is an attractive learning & development environment for individuals looking to become basketball referees and/or high school officials. 

The Camp starts Saturday Morning at 8am with classroom instruction for 90 minutes. Participants will get fitted for their referee shirts and receive a Fox 40 Whistle. The instructors will go over Referee etiquette (Arrival Times, Proper gear and attire, expectations) All participants will be given Instructional Materials to take with them. The participants will officiate good Middle School- varsity high school level games at an HSA Sports tournament which provides a better teaching and learning experience. Officiating games will start at 10:00am Saturday at 9:00am on Sunday. Each participant will officiate 5 games minimum. Participants will get three or more games Saturday and at least 2 games Sunday. 

Participants will learn what it takes to be successful basketball referee. Whether you are brand new to officiating or if you have experience with 2 person mechanics and want to learn 3 person mechanics and fundamentals. This camp will help you move in the right direction. 

 
Instruction in two-person mechanics

Instruction in three-person mechanics

All officials performances will be be critiqued & evaluated

Critiques & evaluations are based on each official’s respective ability and experience.

Individual attention given to each official regardless of their current ability level.

Learn the correct & approved high school rules, mechanics & officiating techniques. 

Learn about opportunities to work with HSA Sports, local recreational games and THSBOA Houston Chapter Games. 

Each Participant will receive a Fox 40 whistle, an HSA referee shirt, & instructional material.
