It's almost game time!!!!!
Please review the following information about the event. THIS IS IMPORTANT INFO AND WILL ANSWER MOST QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU ARRIVE TO THE EVENT.
Review the new rules that were sent earlier today by email.
I will not be passing out coach packets any longer. All the information will be on our NEW FREE HSSE app. Please download the free app for Apple or Android. Search Hop Step Sporting Events in your providers app store.

NO COOLERS OR OUTSIDE FOOD ARE ALLOWED IN THE GYM.
Conessions are available on site.
Please note that tournament guests are not allowed upstairs without a Bishop Park membership.
Please use the entrance down by the Boys & Girls Club. The door is under the blue awning.
Admission for parents and fans is $10 ages 6 and up. Ages 5 and under are free. We accept cash, credit, debit, or CashApp. Fees do apply for credit or debit purchases.

All coaches must check in upon arrival to the venue both days. You get 2 coach wristbands with your registration. You will be required to provide the correct head coach and assistant coach names. If you have not listed the correct coaches, please email the info to HSSEbasketball@gmail.com and I will correct it for you.
PLEASE keep up with your teams and do not allow them to play in the restrooms or run around the facility. Upstairs is off limits for event guests and players unless you have a valid membershiop at Bishop Park.

HSSE RULES

Tournament Rules

1. Registration fees are due by the due date provided by email. No games will be scheduled prior to receiving all payments. You only get 2 coach wristbands with your team registration fee. Additional coaches must pay the gate fee. No Exceptions. Full refund or credit can be issued if a team pays and cannot make the event prior to the schedule being released. If you have paid and the schedule has been released you can receive a credit or partial refund only.

2.. The first game of the day will not start before the scheduled game time. This will only apply for the first games of the day. All teams should be at their scheduled gym 30 minutes before their scheduled playing time.

3. All teams are expected to arrive for games prior to the scheduled start times. Teams will get a 5 minute grace period before a forfeit is called. There will be no warm-up time for the late team in this situation. If any team is knowingly unable to make their scheduled game, they must notify the Tournament Director in advance. In bracket play, if a team cannot advance, the losing team advances as if they had won the previous game. The tournament directors and referee manager have final say on all games whether a forfeit will be issued. (Example: if the team is running behind in one gym and the team is scheduled to play in another gym that is not a forfeit)

4. In the event of a no show for the event, the offending team will forfeit their entry fee and their scheduled games.

5. If any gym falls behind 40 minutes then the ref will play the game with a continuous clock until the gym is back on or close to normal scheduled time.

6. Players will be allowed to play for one team only, unless the player is participating in a different age division. Please note breaking this rule will result in a forfeit.

7. You cannot bring players to play in bracket play that are not on the scoresheets from pool play.

8. Coaches and/or players ejected from a game will not be allowed to participate in the next scheduled game.

9. Coaches are responsible for the behavior of their players and parents.

10. NO HAIR BEADS OR JEWELRY. NO NECKLACES, BRACELETS, EARRINGS OR RINGS. If a player is unable to remove hair beads or jewelry they will not be allowed on the court for game play. Please note that long hair or braids are considered part of the uniform and it is suggested to make sure long hair is put up for games. We do have ponytail holders available at the gate.

12. Each team will play a minimum of 3 games in Pool and Bracket play.

13. National High School Federation rules will be followed.

14. In Pool Play the first team listed is the home team. In Bracket Play, the home team is the top team on the bracket and sits to the left of the scorekeeper facing the court.

15. STOPPED CLOCK All teams 13U to 18U will play 6 minute quarters with 30 seconds between quarters and a 2 minute halftime. Each team will get a 3 minute warm-up. You get 3 timeouts per game. NO MERCY RULE.

16. Players will shoot free throws just like the UPDATED high school rules. Each team will shoot 2 free throws on the 5th foul of each quarter. Fouls will reset after each quarter. All shooting fouls will shoot 2 or 3 free throws. *Each player gets 5 fouls per game.

2nd grade through 6th grade will play four 8 minute quarters with a running clock. The clock will stop the last two minutes of the game. There will be a mercy rule for these games.

17. Overtime rules for pool play will be 1 minute with 1 time out per team with no carry over. The 2nd overtime in pool play will be sudden death. Overtime rules for bracket play will be 2 minutes for the 1st and 2nd overtime with one time out per team with no carry over. The 3rd overtime in bracket play will be sudden death. This means the first team to score wins.

18. There will be a two minute rest period between halves.

19. Teams will be allowed to call (3) 30 second time-out’s per game. No carry overs.

20. There will be a maximum of a three minute warm-up period between games. The ref’s can shorten if running behind schedule.

21. The 10-second backcourt rule is in effect.

22. PRESSING—We are going to let all ages press. There will be no “get back” rule if a team is up by 15.

23. Ball size for boys 6th grade and below is 28.5. Regulation ball is used for 13U through 18U boys. Girls will use 28.5 balls. 6th grade coaches can agree on playing with a mens ball if both parties agree.

24. Hanging on the rim is not allowed during game play or warm-ups. Hanging on the rim will result in a technical during warm-ups and game play.

25. Players playing in the game and coaches coaching the game are the only people allowed on the bench during game play. ONLY 2 COACHES PER TEAM ARE ALLOWED ON THE BENCH. Only the head coach may address the officials. PLEASE DO NOT DISTRACT THE SCOREKEEPER WITH QUESTIONS.


Age Rules


***ONLY COACHES CAN DISCUSS SCORES OR ISSUES. WE WILL NOT ADDRESS ANY MATTERS OF THE GAME OR RULES WITH PARENTS OR FANS.***

26. An athlete’s age and grade as of the current school year (2023/2024) determines his/her playing division. *Grades 2-6- Players will play in the grade named division that they are currently in during the Fall/Winter season. For the Summer season they will play in the grade named division that they just completed. *13 U/7th Grade - Players in the 7th grade must not turn 14 before April 1st. **Exception** Player is in the 8th grade but does not turn 14 until after July 25th. *14 U/ 8th Grade - Players in the 8th grade must not turn 15 before April 1st. **Exception** Player is in the 9th grade but does not turn 15 until after July 25th. *15 U/ 9th Grade - Players in the 9th grade must not turn 16 before April 1st. **Exception** Player is in the 10th grade but does not turn 16 until after July 25th. *16 U/ 10th Grade - Players in the 10th grade must not turn 17 before April 1st. **Exception** Player is in the 11th grade but does not turn 17 until after July 25th. *18 U/ High School - Players must all be in the 11th or 12th grade. Players cannot turn 19 before April 1st. Seniors playing must be unassigned.

27. If a team wishes to protest a player's age it will be a $50 charge at time of protest. You must go directly to a tournament director (Darin or Jane Hobson) and request to protest the team/player. DO NOT ADDRESS THE PROTEST WITH THE OPPOSING COACH, REFS, OR SCOREKEEPER. The game will be played then the protest and document review will begin. The $50 is nonrefundable if you lose the protest but if documents are not available or if the documents provided prove the players age is false then the $50 will be refunded. If a team is protested a copy of the players birth certificate and/or a recent report card with school name, date issued, and grade attended will be needed. If the coach is unable to produce the documents needed within 5 minutes it is an automatic forfeit. Tournament directors have the final approval. ***IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT EACH TEAM HAVE A COMPLETE AND ACCURATE TEAM RECORD AND THAT THE RECORD IS WITH YOU AT THE EVENT EACH TIME***

This is a reminder that payment for Spring Fling is due SATURDAY MARCH 9, 2024 BY 6PM.
I will begin dropping unpaid teams Saturday evening.
