Clark County Youth Basketball League
Messages
Dear Coaches, Parents, & Spectators,
I hope you’re all doing well! I wanted to send a quick reminder regarding gym access during tomorrow’s youth basketball games.
Our LCHS leadership team will be setting up for our school tolo dance in the commons area just outside the gym throughout the morning while games are going on. To ensure a smooth setup and keep the space organized, we kindly ask that players, spectators, and families remain in the gym unless they are using the restrooms.
We appreciate your help in keeping foot traffic limited to the gym area and restrooms only. Thank you for your cooperation, and best of luck to all the teams playing tomorrow!
Thanks!
Season Reminders
3/4 & 5/6 Teams:
Each team must have a parent volunteer ready to assist during games. While some locations may provide additional support, please come prepared with a parent volunteer just in case.
Referees:
Many of our referees are young adults, and for some, this is their first time officiating. Please show them respect and patience. If you’re interested in officiating yourself, contact your director to schedule games!
K/1 Teams:
Encourage your players to stay with their wristband matches. These young athletes (ages 5-7) can get distracted, but gentle reminders to find their player will help them learn and stay engaged.
Stealing:
Stealing is allowed after the ball crosses half-court. Remind players to stick with their assigned player and stay focused.
Help Defense in the Key:
Help defense in the key is both allowed and encouraged as we teach players the fundamentals of basketball. This may result in double-teams inside the key, which is okay.
No Double-Teaming Outside the Key:
Remind your players to stay with their assigned player and avoid double-teaming outside the key. While advanced techniques like double-teaming, traps, and zones will come with time and as players advance/move to higher level leagues, our focus at this level is doing our best to teach man-to-man defense fundamentals. Help defense in key is allowed.
Hoop Adapters: If you're in a gym with hoop adapters, please follow these rules:
- No dunking
- No attempting to dunk
- No touching the backboard
- Adults and high school students should not shoot on these hoops
These adapters can come unhooked, so it’s important to follow these guidelines to ensure safety and prevent damage.
As we kick off the season, we want to thank you for your time and energy in making this a great experience for our athletes. This league is all about fun, learning, and growth—it’s not about competition but about fostering a love for the game.
A few reminders as we head into the first games:
K/1 Coaches:
Don’t forget your wristbands! Please be active on the court, helping officials and guiding players. This division is all about learning—help athletes get into position, encourage them to stay with their assigned player, and most importantly, emphasize having fun!
3/4 & 5/6 Divisions: Be prepared to provide a scorekeeper for each game. One parent or spectator from each team will need to help at the score table. If there are extra high school volunteers, you may not need to assist, but please plan ahead.
Game Times:
Double-check your schedules to ensure your team is on time and ready to go.
Facilities:
Water only is allowed in the gyms. Thank you for helping keep our spaces clean and respectful for all.
Patience & Flexibility:
As we get started, there may be some bumps along the way. Please be patient and maintain a positive attitude with officials, fellow coaches, and venue staff. A little grace and understanding go a long way in ensuring a great experience for everyone involved!
Let’s make this season enjoyable for everyone. Thank you for your commitment, and have a great first weekend of games!
