Vertical Hoops CT State Championship Game Rules



Two (2) 16-minute halves
Clock stops only on free throws and during the last 2 minutes of each half
2–4 minute warm-up period
Running clock when a team is ahead by 20+ points
All teams must be ready to play at least 10 minutes prior to scheduled game time
Zone Defense (4th–5th Grade Only)

No zone defense in the 1st half
Zone defense is permitted in the 2nd half
Pressing Rules (4th–5th Grade Only)

No pressing in the 1st half
Pressing is allowed in the 2nd half
Press must be dropped if leading by 20+ points
Fouls

6 fouls = player disqualification
8 team fouls = 1 and 1 bonus
No double bonus (2 shots) unless in the act of shooting
Timeouts

Each team is allowed 3 full timeouts per game
Overtime

1st Overtime: 2-minute period
Each team is awarded 1 additional timeout
2nd Overtime: Sudden death (first team to score wins)
Technical & Flagrant Fouls

2 technical fouls = ejection for the remainder of the tournament (coach or player)
Flagrant fouls follow college rules
Fighting = technical foul + removal from the remainder of the tournament
No exceptions. No arguments.


Vertical Hoops – Coaches, Parents & Players Code of Conduct

At Vertical Hoops, we take pride in creating a competitive, respectful, and professional environment. Sportsmanship is expected at all times. The following policies will be strictly enforced:


Sportsmanship & Behavior
All players, coaches, and spectators must demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times
Respect for opponents, officials, and event staff is mandatory
Disruptive, abusive, or unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated

Zero Tolerance Policy (Fighting)
Fighting will not be tolerated under any circumstances
Any player or coach involved in a fight will:

Receive an immediate technical foul
Be ejected from the game
Be removed from the remainder of the tournament
No exceptions. No appeals.

Respect for Officials
Officials must be treated with respect at all times
Arguing, threatening, or abusive language toward referees will result in penalties

Technical Fouls & Ejections
2 Technical Fouls = Automatic Ejection
Any player or coach receiving two technical fouls will be:

Ejected from the game
Suspended for the remainder of the tournament
Flagrant Fouls will be administered by referees using college rules standards

Coach Conduct
Head Coach: May stand and coach within designated areas
Assistant Coaches: Must remain seated on the bench at all times
Any coach assessed a technical foul must:

Remain seated on the bench for the remainder of the game

Accountability
Coaches are responsible for the behavior of their players, bench personnel, and spectators
Tournament directors and site staff have final authority on all disciplinary decisions

Check in at your first game location
Coaches will receive a wristband (must be worn or kept on keys)
Limit: 2 coaches per team (no exceptions)

We pride ourselves on quality, board-certified officials. They are not perfect—please ensure coaches, players, and spectators show respect at all times.

The VH CT State Championship Schedule is now LIVE!

Please download the Vertical Hoops app to view game times, venues, and all event-related information.

We did our best to accommodate scheduling requests; however, due to the size of the event (nearly 200 teams) and multiple venues, not all requests could be fulfilled.

Please stay tuned for any additional updates, as well as the final event information announcement coming tomorrow.

Teams from Connecticut and across New England are coming to compete for the ring — the CT State Championship Ring.

In preparation for this event, please review the following important information and share it with your team administrators and coaches:


Invoice & Scheduling Policy
All invoices must be paid in full in order for teams to be scheduled
Payment deadline: Wednesday at 10:00 AM
Teams with unpaid invoices by the deadline will not be scheduled for the event

Schedule Request Policy
Please submit only absolutely necessary requests through the Schedule Request Form (Team Contact Information section)

Submission deadline: Tuesday at 11:00 PM
Schedules will be released Wednesday APRIL 22ND between 2:00–5:00 PM
All requests must be submitted through the form — no email or text requests will be accepted
Requests are reviewed on a first come, first served basis

Coaching Conflicts
Priority will be given to same-team coaching conflicts
Requests apply to Saturday games only
Sunday bracket play game times cannot be requested or guaranteed
We strongly recommend coaches with multiple teams have assistance on Sunday, as adjustments cannot be made due to bracket play

Schedule & Refund Policy
Once schedules are released on Wednesday, no refunds will be issued
If necessary, adjustments will be provided as a credit toward a future event

Roster Eligibility Policy
Vertical Hoops does not require roster verification for non–Mohegan Sun events. However, we strongly encourage all programs to complete roster verification through NSID to ensure fair and competitive play.

Coaches/program directors should carry player documentation, including:

Birth certificates
School report cards
Documents must be available in case of an eligibility challenge
The current age exemption cutoff date is June 1 (per NSID guidelines)
Vertical Hoops reserves the right to review player eligibility if a formal concern is raised during the event. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining integrity and fairness across all divisions.


Game Forfeit Policy
Vertical Hoops will make every effort to minimize forfeits. However, some situations may be unavoidable.

If your team is impacted by a forfeit:

No refunds or credits will be issued
Teams are expected to fulfill all scheduled games. Repeated forfeits may result in:

Disqualification from future Vertical Hoops events

We are quickly approaching a sellout for next weekend’s CT State Championship, powered by Vertical Hoops.

Scheduling Notes:

Scheduling requests for coaches with multiple teams will take priority
All other requests will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis
The earlier your forms and requests are submitted, the better chance we have to accommodate them, as scheduling requests will be very limited this weekend due to the high number of teams participating
