Game Rules

Before you read the game rules, from Mohegan Sun #1 Rule: Children must be accompanied in the Resort area by an adult. Dribbling basketballs, running through the hallways, or loud obnoxious behavior will result in removal of your team from the event. Please! No basketballs outside the playing area and supervise children at all times.

Time Rules:
Two 16 minute Halves (Grades 6-9)
Two 14 minutes Halves (Grades 4-5)
Clock stops on all whistles.
15 point difference the clock runs. (Second Half Only) There is no running clock in the first half regardless of the score.

Ball Size
29.5 (Size 7) for grades 7th-9th, 28.5 (Size 6) for grades 4th-6th

Zone Defense (4th-5th Grade ONLY)*
- No zone defense in the first half
- Zone defense is permitted in the 2nd half

Pressing Rule (4th-5th Grade ONLY)
- NO pressing in the first half
- Pressing allowed in 2nd half
- Teams can press in the second half until they are up by 20 or more points.

Fouls
6 fouls = player disqualification
7 team fouls = 1 & 1, 10 team fouls = 2 shots

Timeouts
Two full timeouts per team. In the event of overtime each team is given an additional timeout. (Timeouts do not carry to second overtime).

Overtime:
First Team to 4 points or leading team after 2 min clock expires, whichever occurs first. If still tied and neither team reaches 4 points in the 2 mins, sudden death to determine the winner.

Technical Fouls / Flagrant Fouls
Two Technical Fouls = Ejection (Coach or Player). Vertical Hoops supervisors along with NEOS (officials) will make the determination on whether of not that player or coach will face further penalty, such as a game suspension or removal from the tournament.
Fighting = REMOVAL FROM THE EVENT NO EXCEPTIONS. ADULTS ENGAGED IN FIGHTING ARE ALSO SUBJECT TO THE MOHEGAN SUN TRIBAL POLICE AND THEIR RULES AND REGULATIONS.

NSID Roster Verification Process
To ensure the highest level of competitive integrity, we have eliminated coach challenges and replaced them with a streamlined roster verification process.

Because all participating teams are verified through the NSID system, every roster has been reviewed and approved before competition. At check-in, each coach will receive an NSID Coach Badge that includes:
*Coach photo
*Team name
*Unique QR code

How It Works
Before each game, opposing coaches must meet and scan each other's QR code. This will allow both coaches to view and verify the approved roster for their opponent.

If you notice a discrepancy between the approved roster and the players present on the court—for example, a team warming up with 12 players while only 10 appear on the verified roster—you should immediately notify a Vertical Hoops Site Director and the game official.

Enforcement Policy
Any non-verified player who participates in a game will result in an immediate forfeit.

No exceptions.

This process creates a fair and transparent environment for all teams while eliminating the uncomfortable nature of coach challenges. Since roster verification is required before every game, coaches can confidently confirm eligibility in a quick, professional, and consistent manner.

Important Reminder for Coaches
You must be signed in to your NSID account before scanning your opponent's QR code.

If you are not logged in, the roster verification page may not load properly.

We have been made aware that the Vertical Hoops Tournament schedule is displaying incorrect dates. The tournament is currently showing as Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15, which reflects last year's dates. We are working with our app developer to correct this issue as quickly as possible.

Please note:

The tournament will take place next weekend, Friday, June 12 through Sunday, June 14. When reviewing the schedule, please follow the day of the week (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) rather than the calendar date listed in the app.

We apologize for any confusion and appreciate your patience while this issue is being resolved. We will notify everyone as soon as the schedule has been corrected.

🏀 VH16 Gold Championship Schedule is Now Live! 🏀

The official Vertical Hoops VH16 Gold Championship Schedule is now available on the Vertical Hoops App.

✅ All teams are guaranteed a minimum of 3 games.

Please log into the app, select your team, and review your bracket and game schedule.

Most divisions will begin with bracket play starting with Game 1 and continuing through the Championship Game. A few divisions will be operated using pool play before advancing to bracket competition.


If your team appears under the Teams section but does not show any scheduled games, or if you see an "Apply Credit" message, this typically means one of the following:

• Your team has not completed the NSID process and has not yet been released.
• Your team has an outstanding unpaid invoice from the Spring season.

Please resolve any outstanding balance as soon as possible. Once issues have has been resolved, our system will automatically release your team's schedule.

VERTICAL HOOPS MOHEGAN SUN CHAMPIONSHIPS – SCHEDULE UPDATE


The Vertical Hoops Mohegan Sun Championship schedule will go live tonight at approximately 10:00 PM on the Vertical Hoops App.

If your team has not completed the NSID verification process, your schedule may appear as “Apply Credits” rather than displaying game information.

Once your team completes the verification process, our system is automatically set to release your schedule.

The easiest way to check your team’s verification status is to log into your NSID account and review your Team Dashboard. There, you can see which coaches and players have been verified, identify any outstanding requirements, and view the necessary steps to complete the process.

Tournament Notes:

Most divisions will be bracket play from Game 1.
Only a small number of divisions will utilize pool play.

All teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games.
If your schedule currently shows only one game, do not be concerned—all teams will still play at least three games.
You can view your potential future matchups by clicking the Bracket tab and following the win/loss pathways for your division.

Vertical Hoops Championships at Mohegan Sun – Schedule Release Reminder


As a reminder, the official schedule for the Vertical Hoops Spring Championships at Mohegan Sun will be released on Tuesday, June 2nd at 10:00 PM and will be available exclusively on the Vertical Hoops App.

As previously communicated, no team schedule will be published unless the team has successfully completed the NSID Team Verification process. In addition, any program with outstanding invoices will not have its schedule released until all spring balances have been paid in full.

We strongly encourage all coaches and parents to complete the NSID verification process immediately so your team can access its schedule as soon as it is released.

Due to the size and complexity of this sold-out event, there will be absolutely no schedule requests accommodated. Please plan accordingly.

Most teams should anticipate playing games on Friday evening, so we recommend making travel plans with that expectation in mind.

If your program submitted a true emergency scheduling request (not a convenience request), we are doing our best to review and potentially accommodate those situations. However, there are no guarantees that any request can be honored due to the scale and scheduling complexity of this event.

Important Deadline:
Coach badges will be printed on Wednesday, June 10 at 12:00 PM.

Once the verification list is locked, no additional coaches will be able to complete verification or receive credentials for the event.
