General Information

Volunteer: These teams are run by parent volunteers or TNBA Staff (17 years of age or older). Please support your coaches as they have volunteered their time for the season. If you wish to help out a team next season, please let your TNBA Staff know. We would love to have you be a part of our league.

Refunds: A parent may request a refund in writing from the league administrators prior to the start of the first game. No refunds will be issued once the first game of the season has started.

Coach Eligibility: If the National Basketball Academy Staff determines that a coach is not reasonably able to uphold his/her coach’s obligations, the coach may be replaced during the season and any additional action taken that is deemed necessary.

Food/Drink: No smoking, food, or drink (including water) is permitted on the gym floor at any time.

Spectators: must be seated in designated areas. Only players properly registered may be on the court. Parents may not stand on the edge of the court unless they are a designated coach on the coaching sideline.

Behavior: Any aggressive behavior by a parent/spectator/coach/player toward any member of the staff or any other participant will not be tolerated. That person will be immediately ejected from the gym and will not be allowed future access to the gym. Coaches are responsible for maintaining good sportsmanship with their team, fans and parents.

DIVISIONS:

2nd and 3rd Grade Division

Coaching: Teams may elect to a have a coach present but a coach is not mandatory.

Possession: A coin flip shall determine which team gets the first possession. The team that wins the coin flip can either choose to benefit from the ball possession at the beginning of the game or at the beginning of a potential overtime.

Scoring: Shots taken inside the 3-point line will count for 1 point. Shots taken outside the 3-point line will count for 2 points. Any free throws taken will count for 1 point.

Clearing: Once the ball is gathered after a made basket, any offensive player must bring the ball outside the 3-point line along with both feet (offensive players must gather the ball within 5 seconds). The same must be done on a steal or rebound or any other live change of possession.

Check-Ins: On any stoppage of play, the ball will be checked in from the top of the key above the 3-point line (Offensive player must pass the ball in within 5 seconds). Players may be subbed in on any check-in, free-throws or any other stoppage of play.

Game Length: Games will be played for 12-minutes or until a team reaches the point threshold (21).

Running Clock: With the exception of the last minute of the game, and time-outs, where the clock will stop upon each whistle.

Basket/Ball Size: The basket is 10 ft and the ball is a 28.5” (women’s size) basketball.

Time-outs: Each team is given 1 full time-out. No additional time-outs will be given in overtime.

Overtime: Sudden death – first team to score 2 points will win. Possession will go to whichever team was not awarded the ball in regulation.

Forfeit: If a team does not have 3 players dressed and ready to play 5 minutes after the scheduled start time then that team will forfeit the game. An additional 5 minutes can be granted if the opposing coach agrees.

Fouls: Bonus will take place on the 5th foul (1 free throw). Double bonus will take place on the 7th foul (2 free throws). Players cannot foul out.

            Technical Fouls: On a technical foul, the opposing team will shoot 1 free throw and will receive the ball on a check in. On the 2nd technical foul, the opposing team will shoot 2 free throws and will receive the ball on a check in. Technical fouls will count for the total foul count. If a player receives 2 technical fouls, that player will be ejected and may not play for the remainder of all games that day.



Player Eligibility: Only players properly registered will be allowed 

to play. If it is determined that a player is not legally on your roster, your team will forfeit any matches in which the player who is not registered participated in. 

1. Second offense during the course of the season will result in a suspension for one game. 

2. Third offense will result in expulsion from the league. (At the league coordinators discretion) 

 

Roster additions: No additions to the roster will be allowed unless cleared by the league coordinator. If a new player wishes to join the team, it must be cleared by league coordinator before the start of the 3rd game.

Equipment: The referee shall not permit any player to wear equipment, which, in his/her judgment is dangerous or confusing to other players or is not appropriate. (Including arm sleeves.)

Injury Rule: When a referee recognizes an injury, it is an Official Time Out and the referee shall determine if the player may be allowed to continue play (if able to do so).

Blood Rule: A player who is bleeding, or has an open wound or has an excessive amount of blood on his/her uniform shall be directed to leave the game.
