Please check your rosters and make sure you have active only the players playing on your team for the tournament. Currently, there are players that are still active and double rostered. The system will print the player on the first roster they are on that plays that day. If that is not the team they are supposed to be on they will not print on the second roster. They will not be allowed to be added to the other team by writing the names on the scoresheets.

Additionally, there have been multiple questions about player eligibility. The directors approved the player eligibility rules that are listed in the rules. If it is a public school and the player does not attend that school they are not eligible to play in the tournament. There are some exceptions for home school, private, and parochial schools please refer to the rules for clarification. If you play a player that is not eligible, you will forfeit the game and your opponent will move on in the brackets. We understand that some will view this as unfair, but the player was allowed to participate in a 10 game regular season and improve their skills. We understand these situations arise and want to at least allow regular season participation. We DO NOT want to tighten the rules up to if you don't attend the school you don't play. Every session, we have teams that ignore this and have to forfeit the tournament game.

3rd Reminder on Rosters etc....

Coaches and Parents,

Please read this message carefully, We are sending this message to all coaches and parents so everyone is informed. Everyone, please help remind your team coaches or youth directors to make the necessary updates. Every session, we have it happen where a coach doesn’t update their roster and has issues during the tournament.

BRACKETS:
All divisions will be divided into multiple brackets depending on how many teams are in that division/grade. Depending on the number of teams, we may have Silver and/or Bronze brackets as well in age groups.

AWARDS:
For all gold brackets, we will give out medals to the winner and runner-up. We will give out medals to the WINNERS only of any Silver or Bronze brackets.

ROSTERS- DEADLINE TO EDIT ROSTER EXTENDED
All rosters will be locked for the tournament. Coaches will be able to make adjustments on their coaches account until 8AM on FEB. 23rd. After this time, coaches will not be able to update rosters. Whatever prints on the scoresheet will be the only players allowed to play. Every session, we send this message out multiple times and it still happens where a coach does not update the roster and players are not allowed to play in the tournament.

Tournament Roster Rules:

1. Players can only play on ONE team regardless of division. If a player currently plays on the 3rd grade team and the 4th grade team, they will have to choose which team they want to play on. Players CANNOT play on two different teams in the tournament.
2. For the tournament, coaches cannot adjust the scoresheet to add players or change numbers.
3. Everyone needs to look at their rosters now and make updates. The site directors are reporting multiple teams with incorrect numbers as well as writing players names and numbers on the scoresheets each game. For the tournament, you will not be able to add/remove/adjust the scoresheets.
4. Rosters - All rosters should be adjusted to reflect only the players playing on that team. Remember a player CANNOT play on multiple teams for the end of year tournament.
5. Any players that do not meet the eligibility requirements are not allowed to participate in the end of year tournament. Please review the rules. If you play a player that is not eligible, you will forfeit that game. You can make players inactive on your roster.
6. Scorekeepers will not allow write-in players for the tournament. All adjustments need to be made in your coaches account.
7. We are going to give everyone at 10pm Thursday Dec. 14th to get any changes submitted.
8. COACHES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ADD OR CHANGE THE SCORESHEET THE DAY OF THE GAME! What prints on Friday Feb 23rd will be the only players allowed to play in that game. We know this has been mentioned before but please take the time to review rosters online and make sure they have the correct info.

Please double check and make sure you have your info correct in your coaches account. Schools that have multiple teams in a grade make sure you have your rosters set up correctly. Coaches, Please double check your numbers as well, if the player is listed with the wrong number they will not be eligible to play unless a technical foul is accessed as well as player name verification is done.

Teams with multiple teams in a grade that are playing as two teams. Please make sure you have your rosters divided correctly in your coaches account. Example, if you have all 14 players listed on both the Red and the White team. You should adjust the roster to have them 7 and 7(or however you want to divide them) If you do not fix this and the red team plays first all 14 players on that score sheet are not eligible to play on another team.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We would rather you ask and confirm then not ask and risk a forfeit.

Thanks,

Coaches,

The schedule is posted for the whole regular season. There were a lot of facility issues, team movement after week 1, late addition teams, multiple teams dropped out, and numerous other conflicts. I can tell you up front not all requests were met. There were many opposite requests (one team wants saturday and other wants sunday - early vs late). The schedule is a manual task, the software does not auto schedule. It creates all the matchups, but we still have to put the games onto a big grid. See Screenshot attached. I fully understand everyone is only going to worry about their teams schedule, but I have to worry about all the teams. We utilized almost every hour of gym time possible. There are some weekends that teams may be off, there were a few weekends that we did not have a lot of gym space and other weekends we had plenty.

Schedule Changes:
I am sure with all the additional moving of games there could be some teams playing at two different facilities. Shoot me an email on those and I will try to get your team to the same facility for that day. There will be some issues with coaches coaching multiple teams, take a look at your schedule and let me know if it absolutely can’t work.

Unfinished Divisions:
5th Grade Girls still have some unscheduled games. We had a team pull out after the first week. There was a team that was in the wrong pool. A Lot of issues with this age group. There will be some A vs B pool games in this age group to balance the schedule. If you do not have 10 games scheduled, please bare with me and I will get the games added.

One last thing on schedule requests and changes. DO NOT SEND ME TEXT MESSAGES. With my work, other activities, and the league, my text messages have become virtually unmanageable. If you send me a text, there is a good possibility it will get missed or read and forgotten by time I get to a computer. Please only send me an EMAIL on schedule changes. Please take a look at the schedule as a whole before asking for a change

Thank You,

Coach Huckshold

Coaches,

I am going to post week 2 of the schedule tonight. This has been the toughest schedule for the league yet. Between the schedule requests and gym constraints this has been a tedious process. Numerous teams had late requests and changes. We still have teams that are requesting to move to different divisions. We will evaluate the rest of this week of what is feasible and doable. There will be some weekends that teams will have off for various reasons.

There have been some social media posts about schedules not being posted yet. This has been the same process every session for the last 5 years. We wait for week one to complete. We deal with any changes or issues. We finish the whole year and post. This is frustrating and frankly stinky thinking by the few. I fully understand that everyone is going to first worry about their own team, but I have to worry about 206 teams. Again, this is the largest youth league in the state. A majority of the scheduling and planning is done by one person.

A few additional things from week 1:

A-B-C teams
Coaches, in some cases teams will move kids from the A team over to play on the B team to “help with numbers”. Sometimes this is a necessity because of a shortage of numbers. My only advice is that sometimes they inflate those teams' records and put them in the gold bracket of the B or C division. For the tournament, players can only play on one team and this can cause an issue for the team being in a non-competitive situation.

Benches and Fans:
Only one coach is allowed to stand during the game. All fans are to be seated or in the designated areas. This will be the only warning. The referee assignors have been instructed to let all referees know that any fans that come onto the court they are to give that team a technical foul. It is a safety issue and will not be tolerated.

Thanks,

Coach Huckshold

Coaches,

We are excited to kick off the 2024 Winter youth league season. The Eastern Ohio Youth Basketball League is the biggest youth league in the state of Ohio. We are excited to announce that we are over 200 teams for this January-February Winter session. This email will cover just a few important things, schedule requests, important dates, and payments.

Inclement weather:

Any cancellation of games will be done by communicating through the website. We will send out a message informing everyone if any games are canceled.

Fees and Waivers:

Must be turned in before your first game. The fee is $415 (cash or check payable to Ohio Lakers) or pay via credit card on the website. All waivers were sent out through the system to the email address that coaches entered for each player. If you entered the incorrect email then your parents did not get the waiver to sign digitally.

Rules:
Please review the rules on the link below.

Here is the link to the Rules:

https://docs.google.com/document/u/1/d/e/2PACX-1vTkHNpqRfDyNZX80lhNJ3GZtPGm0Zto6U4j7PaU_oTcPoNScTuFbvezQHvMWRuIXtL9wQgUQTuAFLP6/pub

Rosters:

Just as an FYI, the website is our communication central. All info entered for parents and coaches is what the system utilizes to send out all communications. We know it is a pain for coaches to enter all the emails and phone numbers into the system, but it is a one time task. Your login will keep all that info for all future sessions and future years. Example, if you enter the info for your 3rd grade team, you will only have to update/add/delete any players for future sessions. Most coaches entered random numbers that may or may not be correct. As your uniforms come in over the next week, please login in and update your jersey numbers. The names and numbers you have on your roster under your account is what prints on the scoresheets.

We will send out more info in the next couple days. We are excited for a great youth season.

Best Swishes,
Coach Huckshold

Coaches,

Week 1 is posted. There are a number of teams that do not play week 1. No reason in particular other than schedule requests and time constraints. Just as an FYI, there will not be a lot of before 2pm Saturday games available. Most high schools are booked with practices.

Coaches,

As expected, over 200 teams in the January-February Session. Below, we have a few things to cover

Pools:
Pools are posted on website and app. Take a look. There was a lot of time spent looking at results, brackets, last year results etc. Please take a look. You will only play the teams in your pool. We are in the process of scheduling week 1 now and hope to post tonight late or first thing tomorrow. We will continue to schedule the rest of the league through the week.

Waivers:
We will be collecting waivers digitally this session. All parents should receive a link from the system to fill out. If you did not fill out contact info correctly, parents will be reaching out to you to fix it.

Payments:
I will invoice everyone in the league through the system so everyone has the ability to pay online before the weekend. If your youth program, boosters, or head coach pays the fees just ignore the invoice. We will still collect payments before your first game this weekend, but it is a constant issue with checks not made out correctly or mis-labeled. We are looking for individual teams to just submit payments online to make things more streamlined. CHECKS ARE TO BE MADE OUT TO OHIO LAKERS.The cost of the league is $415, the same as the first session.

Thanks,

Coaches,

I apologize for the delay in getting this link out to you guys.

https://form.jotform.com/213628367042152

Starting this session, you will only be able to select a day request(Saturday or Sunday) or a time request(before 2pm or after 2pm). You will not be able to select both. If you select a Saturday or Sunday, you will have to be able to play at any time that day. If you need to select before 2pm or after 2pm, you will have to play that game time on either Saturday or Sunday. The league has gotten too big and too difficult to schedule when a high number of teams will select as an example, all Sundays off and only games on Saturday before 2pm. It makes it virtually impossible to schedule all games. The schedule requests are meant to be serious conflict issues, work conflicts, etc. For the most part, all teams utilize it correctly, but it has progressively gotten worse over the last two years.

Other Issues or situations:

1. There is a matchup where one team requests before 2pm games and the opponent requests after 2pm games. We will schedule these games at 1pm,2pm, or 3pm. We try to hit right in the middle.

2. There is a matchup where one team requests no Saturday games and another team requests no Sunday games. The game has to be played, so we will flip a coin and play the game on the day based on the coin toss. We try to put these games at the end of the session so teams have time to prepare.

Thanks in Advance,

Coach Huckshold
