Southeast Elite Showcase is building a reputation for well-run, competitive grassroots tournaments with a strong opportunity for exposure. Based in the Columbia, SC metro area, SES events have strong divisions for both boys and girls teams with various levels of experience. Awards are given for division winners and runner-ups. Individual awards are given for most outstanding player of each division. CHECK-IN: 2 COACHES BANDS WILL BE PROVIDED DURING THE CHECK IN PROCESS. THESE BANDS MUST BE WORN THROUGHOUT THE TOURNAMENT. IF BANDS ARE MISPLACED COACHES WILL HAVE TO PAY ENTRY FEE.
ALL teams must check in before their first game. Scoresheets will be provided (TOP TEAM ON THE SCHEDULE IS HOME) Please have team books available at all times throughout the tournament. Books should have proof of age ie, include birth certificate or state ID, and report card, or National Sports ID. Each team will receive free entry for the two coaches and players listed on the roster only. Players must have on full uniform to receive free entry to tournament.
BENCH PERSONNEL: A team may have on its bench only the eligible persons listed on its official roster, including non-players (coaches, scorekeepers, etc.) Due to the number of teams, and in consideration of all teams, players, coaches, and staff It is imperative that all coaches, players, and parents make the proper arrangements to arrive on time for all games.
TEAM ROSTERS: Team rosters must be provided to the tournament staff prior to the start of the first game. Player age/grade eligibility follows national AAU rules. Players cannot play on two teams in same division. Maximum roster size is 15. Rosters must be either entered into the Exposure system by Thursday before the event, emailed to southeasteliteshowcase@gmail.com, or printed and submitted at team check-in. All teams must bring eligibility documents for each player on the team. If you are challenged regarding the eligibility of a player, you must produce a birth certificate and current report card. If you cannot provide these documents prior to the next game, all games played with the ineligible player will be subject to forfeit.
Rules & Playing Time Division:
- 18 minute running clock halves, clock stops last two minutes of second half (Middle School and Varsity divisions)
- 16 minute running clock haves, clock stops last two minutes of second half (2nd-5th Grade divisions)- All boys divisions 7th grade and above will use a 29.5 basketball; boys divisions 6th grade and below use 28.5; all girls division use 28.5 ball
**NOTE: In the 6th grade boys division, if agreed upon by both coaches, a 29.5 basketball may be used.
- Home team will be responsible for the book and game ball. Home team is listed on top.
***(Please note: We will occasionally have an event staff member doing the book. However, if we do not have someone on our staff to do the book, then the home team will be responsible.)
Gameplay:
- Teams will have 3 minutes for warm ups and 2 minute halftime
- Each team will receive (1) 30 second time out and 1 full time out per half. No carry over.
- If regulation ends in a tie, overtime period is 2 minutes. One additional 30 second time out will be award for both teams.
- If the game remains tied after the first overtime period, then the game will go into sudden death with no time on the clock. First team to score wins. Sudden death overtime starts with tip at half court. No time outs in sudden death.
** IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES ONLY, ALL OVERTIME PERIODS ARE 2 MINUTES IN LENGTH.
Forfeit: There is a 10 min grace period. Game time is game time. If you are not on the court at your designated start time with 5 eligible players, the game will be subject to forfeit. There will be no exception to this rule.
Technical Foul: Any coach that receives a technical foul will have to remain seated for the remainder of the game Any coach or players that receives 2 technical fouls will be removed for the remainder of the game. All technical fouls given to players will count against the personal foul count.
MERCY RULE: In all divisions 7th and below, upon reaching a 20 point margin, no full court press will be allowed until the point margin reduces below 20 points. If a point differential exceeds 35 points, the officials will confer with both coaches to obtain an agreement about ending the game. If both coaches agree to continue, the game shall continue without stopages or timeouts.
TIE BREAKERS: Any tie after pool play will be broken using head to head winner. In the case of no head game or any three or more way ties, the following tie-breaking methods will be used: 1. Score differential up to maximum of 15 points per game (Pool Games Only) 2. Least points allowed.
Referees control the game fully. All referee calls must be honored. There will be no meetings, discussion, etc. regarding referees. They have full control of the game.
PROTESTING INELLIBLE PLAYERS: If you wish to protest the eligibility of a player on the opposing team, the protest must be made known to the officials and scorer's table prior halftime. The officials and scorers table will notify the gym director of the protest. The coach of the player in question must provide age/grade verification for the player to be eligible to play in that game. If no verification can be provided, the player will be required to sit out until verification can be shown to the gym director. Ineligible players will not be allowed to play in the remainder of the tournament. However, if the player is show to be in the correct grade/divisions, the coach who protested will be given a technical foul (2 free throws) and the bench will be assessed a technical foul (2 additional free throws)--4 total free throws. Further, the team who protested in error will not be allowed to protest again in the tournament.
UNIFORMS: Home wears white/lighter colored jerseys and Visitors wear dark jerseys. Home team is listed first or top of schedule.
EJECTIONS: Any coach ejected for fighting will be removed for the remainder of the tournament. Any player ejected for fighting will be prohibited from playing in the remainder of the tournament. Any spectator who is asked to leave by the tournament director for misbehavior will not be allowed to return to the tournament and will not be issued a refund for entrance fee.
SPORTSMANSHIP: It is the obligation of coaches, players, administrators, volunteers, and other representatives to practice the highest principles of sportsmanship and to observe the ethics of the competition. Good sportsmanship is defined as qualities of behavior, which are characterized by courtesy and genuine concern for others. The display of good sportsmanship is a statement of the individual’s understanding and commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity. All coaches should observe the following ethical guidelines: The coach shall never place the value of winning above the value of instilling the highest desirable ideals of character. The coach must always consider the personal safety of the athlete. The coach shall be thoroughly acquainted with the rules and regulations of competition, and shall be responsible for their interpretation to team members. The coach shall not try to seek an advantage by circumventing the spirit or letter of the rules. Game officials shall have the respect and support of the coach. The coach shall not indulge in conduct that will incite the players or spectators against the officials. Public criticism of the officials or players is unethical. The coach should respect his opponents, display gracious behavior during the competition and require his players to conduct themselves in similar fashion. Before and after the contest, rival coaches should exchange friendly greetings to set the correct tone for the event. Coaches shall actively use their influence to enhance sportsmanship by spectators.
DIVISION AGE/GRADE RULES: The age/grade rules are designed to prevent unnatural athletic/developmental advantages in each division, especially at the elementary and middle school level. Players who's birthday would typically put them in a particular grade, will be required to play in that grade, unless given specific authorization/approval from the event director at team check-in.
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR BRACKET PLAY, ALL PLAYERS MUST BE LISTED ON THE OFFICIAL ROSTER THAT WAS SUBMITTED AT TEAM CHECK. NO NEW PLAYERS MAY BE ADDED TO THE ROSTER ONCE A TEAM HAS CHECKED IN.
Teams found to have an ineligible player(s) will be subject to forfeit all games played and their registration money will not be refunded. It is the responsibility of the coach to know their roster and maintain an accurate book of report cards and birth certificates.
Based on registrations, it is possible that two divisions will be combined. The tournament director will make efforts to communicate to the teams affected and let them know beforehand if this is the case.
